Auction Systems Select, a division of Auctioneers & Appraisers, Inc., will be hosting a preview event on January 19, 2012 for the upcoming Renoir and Guino art auction. The live auction will be conducted Tuesday, January 24, 2012. The preview events and live auction will be held at the Ostrovsky Fine Art Gallery located at 7048 E. Main Street in Scottsdale. The items of interest include sculptures by Renoir and Guino along with Victor Ostrovsky artwork.
According to art historians, Renoir started sculpting early in his career. But, he did not become famous for his classic nude bronzes until right before he died in 1919 at the age of 78. Renoir achieved prominence as a sculptor with the help of Richard Guino, a former assistant to another world-class French painter and sculptor, Aristide Maillol.
Because Renoir became crippled with rheumatoid arthritis, he solicited the help of Guino to produce his final sculptures. With an immediate rapport, the two worked seamlessly together for two years creating celebrated works of art. Using a pointer, Renoir showed Guino exactly what he wanted done on each piece.
“This event offers the famed sculptures of the leading French Impressionist artist, Pierre-Auguste Renoir,” said Deb Weidenhamer, CEO of Auction Systems. “But, it also provides an interesting historical perspective. Guino is the only assistant lauded for expertly capturing Renoir’s direction to produce his classic impressions of feminine beauty.”
Both preview events will be held at the Ostrovsky Fine Art Gallery from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wine and Hor d’oeuvres will be served. Interested parties can RSVP at vip@auctionandappraise.com.
